If you've ever pulled up a graphic EQ on your Behringer WING or X32, you might have noticed there are two different versions available: Graphic Equalizer with True Curve on the WING, or on the X32/M32 the GEQ and TruEQ.
They look almost identical. Same 31 bands. Same sliders. So what's the difference?
The short answer: what you see is not always what you get.
I just published a deep dive on this topic, and I want to share the key takeaway with you—because it can dramatically affect how your EQ adjustments actually sound.
The "Crowning Effect"
Here's what happens when you boost several adjacent bands on a standard Graphic EQ. I set up a mid-range boost: +6 dB at 500 Hz and 2 kHz, with +9 dB on the bands in between.

Slider positions for the mid boost test
Looking at those sliders, you'd expect a fairly flat shelf in the mids, topping out around 9 dB. Here's what actually happened:

Yellow = Standard Graphic EQ | Green = True Curve (TruEQ)
See that wavy yellow pattern? That's what I call the "crowning effect." Each slider's bandwidth overlaps with its neighbors, and when you boost multiple adjacent bands, those curves stack. The actual boost at 1 kHz is hitting closer to 15 dB instead of the 9 dB shown on the slider.
Now look at the green True Curve measurement—it's smooth and flat-topped, delivering exactly what the sliders suggest.
The difference: True Curve calculates the interaction between bands and compensates for it. Standard Graphic EQ behaves like traditional hardware and lets those bands stack.
Neither is "wrong"—they're just different tools. But if you want what-you-see-is-what-you-get, True Curve is the way to go.
